Last week, as my wife and I were leaving the house we saw a big Sustainable Spaces truck on our street helping one of our neighbors go Green. Since then, I have seen their trucks throughout the city (San Francisco) working with al sorts of families to go Green. After I saw the truck, I checked out their website and it seems they do a pretty thourough job.

Rather than write up a story on them now, when I only know what I have heard from neighbors and what I can reado on their web site, what I am going to do is try them out and then give everyone a report on how it was to hire them to help me go Green at my house. Here's the link to Sustainable Spaces if you want to check them out on your own.
Why am I putting them on my blog. I think companies like Sustainable Spaces will begin popping up everywhere in the US. Service companies that aid people in going green are going to be an important part of Carbon neutral living. Seeing the truck in my neighbor reminded me that VC funded companies are only part of the companies that are part of the new Green economy. Look for a a growing trend of small mom & pop green "service" operations to start popping up.
on another note, also look for existing service companies begin to rebrand themselves as "Green" even when they are not- Have you seen the "Green" house cleaning companies? How about the Green plumber or the Green electrician. Soon we will even see that everyone will claim to be Green - As a reaction to these fake Green companies, local watch dog sites will also pop up to spread the news on the posers.

Over the past 16 years, I have been involved in 5 successful startup companies ranging from an energy company, to several .com companies. Now I am focusing all of my attention on creating the tipping point in the sustainability movement by pushing initiatives in government, business and the broader social landscape.
Many people are curious, what I am doing since I left Powerset. Well, the short story is that I have decided to dedicate myself to what I call the new Green Economy and I am working on several initiatives with other leaders in government and businesses that all fall under the responsibility of non-profit that I am founding called SF Green.
